Wanova Mirage: How It Works
Wanova Mirage software centralizes the entire desktop contents in the data center, while optimizing the end user experience through local execution at the endpoints. Mirage is engineered specifically to overcome the challenges associated with managing remote and mobile desktops.
To understand how Mirage works, it is useful to understand several key elements. Mirage conceptually splits the PC into three layers, combining a centrally managed Base Image with two layers from the endpoint.
Base Image (BI) -- The Base Image is comprised of IT-managed OS and core applications. A single BI can be updated centrally, and optimally propagated to many images.
User-Installed Applications and Machine Data -- This layer includes any application installed by the end user, as well as machine state information such as machine ID.
User Data and Settings -- This layer incorporates user data, such as Powerpoint or Excel files, and personalization settings like desktop images, toolbar preferences and Internet favorites.
These three layers form a Centralized Virtual Desktop (CVD). A CVD is an individually-identified and managed logical entity that represents the content of a user's entire desktop. Because the entire CVD is stored in the data center, administrators can protect, patch or troubleshoot it locally.

Wanova Mirage hybrid desktop virtualization architecture includes Wanova Mirage Server in the data center to centralize desktop management, protection, and support; Mirage Client to create a local cache for optimal user experience at the endpoint, and advanced DDO technology to optimize bi-directional synchronization over the WAN.
The Mirage Management Console The Mirage Management Console provides a comprehensive toolset for managing the desktop environment. From this intuitive interface, administrators can:
- View a dashboard that provides an overview of the status of their systems, Base Image updates, data protection, network utilization, and capacity.
- Create, manage and deploy Base Images.
- Create upload policies to ensure efficient storage utilization (e.g, don't back up MP3 files).
- View and run reports on the content of each CVD, gaining visibility into user-installed applications, drivers, and more.

The Wanova Management Console gives administrators powerful centralized control of their distributed desktop environment.
