Catbird vSecurity provides a full spectrum of security services in a virtual environment

The Catbird V-Agent can monitor virtual segments within a host as well as physical network segments connected to the host. The Catbird V-Agent delivers the operational flexibility that is a hallmark of virtual infrastructure. Unlike traditional host-based solutions, stateful appliances and proprietary hardware solutions, Catbird's unique stateless "in-the-cloud" architecture is 100% plug-and-play for virtualized environments. Security data is maintained even as V-Agents are shutdown or redeployed. V-Agents can track guests while providing comprehensive security protection for virtual networks; between guests; between guests and hypervisors; and between guests and the external network itself. As a stateless agent running as a guest on the virtual infrastructure, V-Agents are simpler and less costly to deploy and manage than traditional security solutions.

Catbird addresses a broad spectrum of Virtual Security Threats and Issues

■Guest Operating System
■Vulnerable to network attack, malware or user misuse and misconfiguration

In-the-cloud Architecture
Catbird’s in-the-cloud architecture delivers the benefits of scalability and simplicity of deployment and management through the use of stateless agents controlled from a central web portal. Unlike traditional security solutions that rely on appliances and other customer premised equipment, Catbird’s V-Agents retain no data locally but instead make use of an encrypted transport over the existing IP infrastructure—thus the term “In-the-cloud Architecture”.

The combination of Catbird’s V-Agent and “In-the-cloud Architecture” enables:

■Central configuration, management and data reporting across all available V-Agents
■Maintenance of V-Agent configuration data across shutdown or reverting of guest system virtual images
■Security policy management for all Hypervisor and Guest system configurations
■Security policy compliance for all Hypervisor and Guest system configurations
■Change control compliance management
■Ability to transparently move V-Agent instances between Hypervisors
IT and Business Unit personnel access the Catbird data via a web interface—the Catbird Command Center™. The Catbird Command Center™ utilizes a Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) interface that provides designated access to the data and capabilities required by specific job functions. Customers and partners are able to integrate the Catbird Command Center™ notification and report capabilities into 3rd party help desk or ticketing systems.

The Catbird V-Agent can be run on Windows® and Linux systems, using one of these Free Virtualization products from VMware:

VMware Server: Free Virtualization for Windows and Linux Servers.
VMware Fusion: You may also wish to evaluate Catbird V-Agent on Mac OS X. This is currently a Beta product, and not yet supported for production use:
