It contains **ways of working** — workflows, field configurations, screens, permissions, automation rules, and the schemes that tie them together. The issues are what most people think of first, but they are rarely the hard part. The hard part is the configuration around them, which has often grown over several years and which nobody in the organisation remembers in detail. ARJ Distribution sells exclusively through resellers and MSPs in the Nordics — Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland. We never sell directly to end customers. > The issues can be exported. The first is answered in years. The second is often answered with the name of someone who has left. That is why the rows in the table above that concern *configuration* — workflows, field configurations, screens, schemes, automation rules and project roles — are the ones that carry the deal. The issues can be exported in other ways. The way of working cannot. **Assets deserves a mention of its own.** For a customer using Jira Service Management as a CMDB, the entire asset model sits there — object types, attributes, references between objects, and statuses. It is one of the hardest things in the whole Atlassian environment to recreate, and it is covered. ## Company-managed and team-managed projects Jira has two kinds of project, and the vendor marks in its list that **some settings are only covered for one kind or the other**. - **Company-managed projects** — several board, field, screen and scheme settings are covered only here. - **Team-managed projects** — certain field, timeline and work item type settings are covered only here. In practice it is the company-managed projects that carry the heavy, shared configuration — and that is also where backup is worth the most. **But do not mix them up in a quote:** find out which kind the customer's most important projects are before you describe what is protected. ## What we do not promise yet Three things are **not** in the vendor's documentation, and so they are not stated as facts here either. - **Jira Software versus Jira Service Management.** The page gives one shared list and does not separate the products. What differs between them in practice is not stated. - **Cloud, Data Center and Server.** The vendor's resource list does **not** say which hosting types it applies to. We have put the question to them — **ask us before you promise anything to a customer who is not on Cloud.** - **Restore limitations.** The page states none. That is not the same as there being none — other platforms in the same product have clear ones, and we have asked about Jira. We would rather write this out than fill the gaps with reasonable assumptions. **If you need an answer on any of these points, we take it to the vendor** — it is faster than doing it yourself, and the answer then ends up here for everyone. ## Four questions to ask the customer 1. **How long did it take to get the workflows to where they are?** The answer is the value of the backup, in the customer's own words. 2. **Company-managed or team-managed projects?** That decides which settings are covered. 3. **Do you use Assets?** If so, the customer's asset model sits in Jira, and it is both valuable and hard to recreate. 4. **Cloud, Data Center or Server?** Ask us before promising anything for anything other than Cloud. ## Why through a distributor > We do not sell to end customers. That is not a courtesy — it is the business model: everything goes through you, and we never compete with you at your customer. What you get besides the licences: technical pre-sales help, support during a proof of concept, support in English and Swedish, and a named contact who knows your business instead of a ticket number. ## Getting started Tell us what the customer's Jira looks like — how large the environment is, whether the most important projects are company-managed or team-managed, and whether they use Assets.
