ARJ Distribution · Recast Application Workspace
What does application management cost today?
Five savings lines, each one switchable. Turn on only what you can defend in a customer meeting, and replace every assumption with the customer's own figures.
Assumptions
SEK 480 is ARJ's list price per user per year. It varies with the exchange rate, with how many of the Application Workspace modules are used, and to some extent with the number of users. The figure here is an estimate to calculate with — it is not a quotation and binds neither ARJ nor Recast.
A one-off cost in the first year, and the line that decides how quickly the case pays for itself. How long the implementation takes depends on how many applications are to be set up, how experienced the partner is with the product, and how much the customer does themselves. The figures here are an estimate to calculate with, not a quotation.
The 8.5 minutes come from Recast's surveys among their own customers, where the time lost was measured at 13.5 minutes a week. Recast's own calculator counts IT time only, from 3 down to 1 minute per user per week.

The pace is set by how often the vendor ships versions. A browser can arrive in several versions in the same week and has to be repackaged each time before it can be pushed out with Intune, while a line-of-business system may be patched once a year. Split the applications by pace and let the average fall out of it. Count only the customer's own systems — what the catalogue covers rarely needs repackaging at all.
With Intune the same application is repackaged for every set of settings — a department that needs different choices, a customer in another tenant. Each variant is a packaging run of its own. Application Workspace handles the differences as conditions on a single package, so that side of the calculation is not multiplied. Left at 1, no variant split is counted.
The cost is set per pace, because it is not the same everywhere. Recast's calculator starts from USD 1,000, which is entirely reasonable for an application packaged rarely and built from scratch each time. What you do often gets cheaper — the routine is in place and parts of the work can be automated — which is why the figure is lower on the top row. The cost with Application Workspace is Recast's USD 15.75 and is the same whatever the pace.
Other workplace management tools that Application Workspace replaces. Recast counts USD 100 per user per year. Turn the line on only if the customer actually pays for such a tool today.
Recast counts 30% of USD 250 per user per year. The line assumes the customer has a VDI or SBC environment.
—
Recast asks for the number of workplace-related tickets per month — deployment, updates and self-service. It is often a figure the customer can pull from their ticket system in fifteen minutes, which makes this line easier to defend than most of the others.
The line overlaps with Time saved if the IT minutes there already cover ticket handling. Do not switch both on without deciding what each one covers.

Take the figures with you
A summary of exactly the numbers in the fields above, so the conversation can carry on without the calculator. Nothing is sent to ARJ — these are your own notes.

How it is calculated
time = users × min/week × weeks ÷ 60 × hourly cost today = Σ (apps × repacks/yr × cost) × variants with AW = Σ (apps × repacks/yr) × cost with AW packaging = today − with AW tools = users × SEK/user/year vdi = users × SEK/user/year × share tickets = tickets/mo × 12 × min/60 × hourly cost × reduction licence = users × SEK/user/year implement. = hours × hourly cost, year 1 only net year 1 = sum of lines switched on − licence − implementation from year 2 = sum of lines switched on − licence
No line is counted unless it is switched on. Change a value and everything recalculates.
Implementation is paid once, the licence every year. That is why the case improves for every year it runs — year 1 carries the whole work effort, year 2 onwards carries only the licence.
Two sets of figures that are not the same
ARJ's material is based on Recast's surveys among their customers and counts time saved: 8.5 minutes a week for the end user and 2 for IT.
Recast's own calculator does not count end-user time at all. It counts IT time, packaging cost, removed tool licences, VDI optimisation and fewer tickets — in pounds, dollars and euros, not in kronor.
The lines above cover both models. End-user time is the single largest one, so it is also the one that will be questioned — switch it off and show what remains without it.
The figures were measured at other customers, not at yours. The calculator is material for a conversation, not a quotation, and binds neither ARJ Distribution nor Recast Software.
