Microsoft 365 backup with Xopero ONE

This page is about Xopero ONE's protection of Microsoft 365: Exchange Online, OneDrive and SharePoint. Mail, files, and what users collaborate on in the tenant — what sits there, not what sits on the laptop or in the hypervisor. The overview of all three M365 backups (Hornetsecurity 365 Total Backup, Xopero ONE and GitProtect) is on its own page; here we focus specifically on Xopero.

Why a dedicated page alongside the overview: for a partner who already uses Xopero ONE in the customer's environment — for endpoints, servers, virtual machines — or is considering it, adding M365 to the same product is the obvious choice. One console, one licence, one storage profile, one contact for support.

ARJ Distribution sells exclusively through resellers and MSPs in the Nordics — Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Iceland — never directly to end customers.

Teams and Entra ID are not included. That is the honest boundary, and it is the same for GitProtect's M365 cover. If both are needed — Hornetsecurity 365 Total Backup is the one.

Why M365 backup also with Xopero

Microsoft themselves recommend complementing M365 with protection from a third party. Shared responsibility: Microsoft is responsible for keeping the service running, the customer is responsible for the data in it. And what disappears from an M365 environment usually doesn't go because Microsoft got something wrong — it goes because someone deleted the wrong thing, an integration with too wide permissions ran wrong, or an account was removed when a consultant left and took the user's files to the bin with it.

Why Xopero ONE specifically when the M365 overview compares three options? The answer is about the partner's wider business at the customer. If the partner already has Xopero ONE in place — for endpoints, servers, virtual machines, NAS — or is considering it, then adding M365 to the same product and the same console is the straight choice. One contact point with the vendor, one storage profile, one licence model. And if Teams or Entra ID are not critical for the customer today, this is a scope where Xopero is enough.

The overview at microsoft-365-backup compares the options in detail. This page starts from Xopero ONE being the product, and shows what that means.

What is protected

Xopero ONE covers three workloads in Microsoft 365, and it is the same three as in GitProtect's M365 licence:

Workload What is protected
Exchange OnlineMailboxes with mail, calendar, contacts, tasks and folder structure. Shared mailboxes and permissions.
OneDriveEach user's OneDrive files, with version history and sharing.
SharePointDocument libraries, lists and sites. Requires the Microsoft 365 PRO licence tier.

What is not protected, said plainly:

  • Teams chats and Teams channel messages. Neither Xopero ONE nor GitProtect's M365 licence covers Teams content. There is no release date on the way. If the customer needs Teams backup, Hornetsecurity 365 Total Backup is the only option in our range.
  • Entra ID. Same here — Xopero ONE does not back up Entra ID objects (users, groups, roles, conditional access). Hornetsecurity 365 Total Backup covers Entra ID.

For most of our partners the question is not there. Mail, OneDrive and SharePoint are what a replacement scenario needs back — and that is where Xopero ONE delivers.

Recovery

Recovery runs from the console, against Xopero's own storage or whatever you chose. The granularity is what a partner usually needs in an incident:

  • A single mail, a calendar entry, a contact. The common request — a user deleted the wrong thing.
  • A whole mailbox, including folder structure. When a consultant leaves and the mail is needed to follow up a case.
  • Parts of or whole OneDrive folders, with version history.
  • SharePoint documents, lists or whole sites.
  • Restore to the same or a different user or site — useful when a team takes over a former colleague's work, or a consultant's files are handed back to the customer.

Storage and licence

The licence is counted per user. And here is the difference that decides most conversations: Xopero ONE does not require the whole tenant to be licensed. You and the customer choose which users to protect. That matters in organisations with a lot of part-time staff, retail or warehouse staff, healthcare staff or field workers who have a Microsoft licence to receive mail but actually work in other systems — where mail volume is low and the backup cost per user would otherwise be counted twice.

Compare with Hornetsecurity 365 Total Backup, where the whole tenant is counted automatically — there the point is total cover, not a selection. Compare with GitProtect, where M365 can also be chosen per user but where storage works differently, see below.

Storage is bought separately. That is the clearest practical difference against GitProtect's M365 licence, where unlimited storage is included. In Xopero ONE you choose where the backup lands, and the storage cost sits outside the licence:

  • Xopero Cloud Storage within the EEA — Xopero's own service.
  • AWS S3, Wasabi, Backblaze B2, Google Cloud Storage or Azure Blob.
  • Any S3-compatible storage.
  • A local folder, SMB or NFS v2/v3 on your or the customer's premises — useful in sectors with requirements that data stays within their control.

Immutable storage is supported against AWS, Wasabi and Backblaze B2. That is where an attacker who has reached M365 admin cannot also delete the backup behind you.

Four questions to ask the customer

  1. Are Teams content or Entra ID something you would want in the backup? If yes — go straight to Hornetsecurity 365 Total Backup. If no or not critical, Xopero ONE is a straight option.
  2. How many M365 users do you have, and do you want to protect all of them or make a selection? Whole tenant plus many part-time staff can be an argument for total cover (Hornetsecurity). A clear selection is an argument for Xopero.
  3. Do you already have Xopero ONE for other infrastructure — endpoints, servers, virtual machines, NAS? If yes, adding M365 in the same console is an easy extension.
  4. How long should mail and files from a departed employee be kept? The policy question that is rarely answered at implementation and often comes up when something needs to come back.

Through a distributor

We do not sell to end customers. It is not a courtesy, it is the business model: everything goes through you, and we never compete with you at the customer.

What you get along with the licences: technical pre-sales help, support in a proof of concept, support in English and Swedish, and a contact person who knows your business. How the licence is counted for the customer's particular setup is something we go through with you before you quote — for Xopero ONE M365 it is one per protected user, and we source storage separately based on volume and target.

Getting started

Tell us what the customer's M365 environment looks like — how many users to protect, whether the customer has clear requirements on where data must be stored, and whether Teams or Entra ID are critical. We will tell you what can be promised and what it costs.

About the content on this page. This is a sales overview — not full product documentation. The information has been checked against Xopero's own documentation in October 2026 and we keep it under review, but features, system requirements and version support change — and a change can slip past us. Always check against the vendor's current documentation before promising anything to a customer: Xopero's help centre for Xopero ONE. If you are unsure it is faster to ask us — we take the question to the vendor and come back with an answer you can rely on in a quote. And if something does not work the way it says — here or in the vendor's documentation — let us know. We report it to the vendor and correct the page.
